Omnium Gatherum: An Installation by Lucy Mitchell

Lucy Mitchell's site sensitive installations, collages and box assemblages reveal the complexities of collecting. Omnium-Gatherum, mock Latin for gathering together a variety of objects, aptly represents the importance of classification and taxonomies in Mitchell's work, which questions classificatory systems as much as it embraces them through the artist's interest in science, labyrinths and objects in the natural world. While the works confront notions of collecting, they also represent a highly personal collection of the artist and reveal the interface between science and art.
