Graphic Designer

Department: Advancement

Reports to: Director of Public Relations

The position of Graphic Designer is responsible for executing the print and online materials for the Advancement office and supporting other departments design needs as requested and approved by Public Relations Director. In executing these marketing materials, the Designer is responsible for maintaining and moving the visual components of the Maine College of Art brand forward. A good working relationship is necessary with members of other departments for successful collaboration and execution of tasks.

Specific duties include but are not limited to:

Working with management to plan and execute marketing materials for Advancement Office. Designer is responsible for the creation and execution of brochures, annual reports, postcards, newsletters invitations and programs and more. This also includes the estimating and production supervision for these materials. Candidate must be comfortable talking with print vendors, negotiating costs and working with production schedules. Designer must be able to deliver press-ready files to print vendors.

Create and place advertising for the institution.

Work with management to develop and facilitate a branding strategy. This includes developing internal and external documents that are consistent with the brand and mission of the College.

Collaborate with project coordinators to develop and execute graphics, signage, and other visual components for College events.

All materials developed need to follow budget within reason and with discussion to provide the best materials that the available funds allow.

Maintain photography database and manage expiration of usage rights.

Currently, this role also manages a student freelancer. The student provides assistance to the designer in any of the above tasks deemed appropriate by the designer.

Candidate must be proficient with the Adobe Creative Suite: ie Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator. Experience with electronic marketing materials, Flash, Contribute, Dreamweaver a plus.

The position is part-time.

Director of Student Affairs

The Maine College of Art, an accredited art college of 350 undergraduate and 30 graduate students, seeks an experienced higher education professional to join its staff as Director of Student Affairs. The Director plays a leadership role in meeting the retention goals of the College by leading and supervising the areas of residence life, wellness & counseling, tutoring, and co-curricular activities. The Director of Student Affairs enforces the Student Code of Conduct, facilitates student crisis intervention, maintains compliance with campus crime notifications, and works in an advisory capacity to the Disabilities Coordinator in regards to ADA accommodations. The Director of Student affairs also helps to develop access to external services that enhance students’ well being.

The ideal candidate will have previous managerial experience and significant experience in one or more of the following areas: residence life, student activities programming, academic advising, counseling, student conduct, disability services, and/or student advocacy. S/he must have the highest professional and ethical standards, be responsive to student needs, and understand MECA’s mission as a student-centered institution. The candidate must demonstrate clear and effective leadership and a passion for enhancing student resources and services, and be able to properly balance student advocacy with student conduct.

The Director of Student Affairs supervises the Housing Coordinator, the Counseling & Wellness Coordinator, and the Director of Co-Curricular Activities, and works closely with MECA’s two academic advisors to maintain an integrated student affairs area. The successful candidate must have the ability to work collaboratively with a team of student services professionals. The Director of Student Affairs reports directly to the Associate Dean of Academic and Student Affairs.

A bachelor’s degree is required and a master’s degree is preferred.
