I have grown up as an artist here. The faculty always understood
my situation as an international student with English as
a second language, and during wartime and conflict. I asked
a lot of questions and they always had time for me. I would come
to campus even if I didn't have class just to be around the
people. They always gave me something; they helped to push
me. My instructors knew my visual language, vocabulary,
images, and personality. I felt lucky to have all of these
great teachers in one place. The personal attention, the
support, the honesty; it was really amazing. I tried to take
advantage of it all.
I thought I knew how to draw when I came
here, but I learned I didn't. We started from basics. I
learned how to use materials properly, how to work with
space and light.
