Eligibility
Pre-College 2009 is open to students who have completed their sophomore, junior, or senior year of high school as of June 2009. Pre-College provides a rigorous pace and a workload similar to the first semester of art college. Although a portfolio is not required for entrance to the program, it is expected that students will be strongly committed to four weeks of intensive daily studio classes and additional evening and weekend studio work.
Application Procedures
Since enrollment is limited, early application is recommended. If we receive your application early, your chances of being placed in the major of your choice are increased. We will send you notification of acceptance or waitlist status two weeks after we receive your completed application. You will receive a roommate questionnaire, health forms, and other materials in May. Applications received after April 17 will be considered if space is available.
Complete applications include the following: application form, recommendation letter from an art teacher or counselor, a one-page essay stating your reasons for wanting to attend Pre-College, and a $40 application fee. All of these must be received before the application can be reviewed. There are no admission tests or portfolio requirements.
Scholarship applications with supporting documents must be received by April 17, 2009. Scholarship award notifications will be sent May 1.

Scholarships
Scholarships are based on financial need and portfolio reviews. Scholarship awards range from full tuition to $250. To request an application, please call (207) 699-5062. Scholarship applications, including all supporting materials, should be received by April 17, 2009. Applications received after that date will be considered if funds are available.
Pre-College students who are rising seniors, and are admitted into MECA's BFA program automatically receive a $1500 a year grant. This grant is renewable for four years of study. In addition, all rising seniors will receive an undergraduate application fee waiver from the Office of Admissions upon completion of the Pre-College program.
