Application Procedures
Applications received before February 11 will be given priority consideration
To initiate the application process, candidates for admission must submit the following:
1. A completed application form or apply online
2. A non-refundable $40.00 application fee, payable to MECA
3. A slide carousel (maximum 40 slides), cd, video or other media representaton of recent work
4. A resume (education, employment history, exhibitions, publications, honors, etc.)
5. Transcripts from all undergraduate and graduate institutions attended
6. Three letters of recommendation, at least two of which should be written by studio faculty who can speak from direct experience about the applicantís potential as a graduate student. Letters should address the candidateís ability to work independently, to contribute to the learning community, as well as the candidateís promise as a maker of high quality visual art.
7. A program proposal of roughly seven-hundred and fifty words that describes the applicantís intended field of concentration and the reasons for choosing that concentration. The proposal should include an artistís statement that situates the applicant's work within a cultural, contemporary, and historical context.
8. Candidates may be interviewed by the Admissions Committee. Finalists may be required to submit a portfolio for review and to make a presentation of their work to the Committee. Successful candidates must demonstrate an exceptional talent in their medium, a working knowledge of its history, and a substantial
knowledge of general art history.
