Feed Your Soul.
This program is designed to give art educators professional development as well as an opportunity to work on your own artwork and network with other art educators. You will take workshops with MECA’s BFA faculty, share ideas with other art educators and colleagues, get to know Portland, Maine as a creative location and have the opportunity to work on your own artwork.
The program offers 30 hours of in-class workshop and lecture time, and 24/7 studio access within a 5 to 7 day period. Workshops will be lead by MECA’s BFA faculty and may include Ceramics, Jewelry, Painting, Figure Drawing, Woodworking, Photography, Printmaking, Textile and Fashion Design, plus others. From year to year the workshop offerings will be different.
Individual studio space is available to most participants on a first come first served basis at no additional charge. This is a great opportunity for participants that would like the option of having their own studio space during the duration of the program. There are a variety of studio spaces to chose from adjacent to your favorite studio area. You will have 24/7 studio access during the program to make as much art as you want with as many materials as you can bring.
The cost of Feed Your Soul will cover the tuition of the workshops and is posted on the website. Each participant is responsible for all travel; including parking, personal expenses, some dinners and material costs. Some workshops will require a materials fee and others will provide you a list of materials that you can bring from home. At no extra charge and on a first come first basis, you will be offered; on campus housing, and a chance to have your own studio space. Breakfast and lunch are also offered everyday at no additional cost. There is an optional cost if you prefer a housing upgrade. If your school district is paying the cost of the program, but it will arrive at a later date; MECA can pre-register participants and hold their space in the program for up to 90 days, to give the school district time to process the check or payment form.
All travel expenses, including parking are the responsibility of the participant. It is not necessary to have a vehicle in Portland during the duration of the program. Portland has several transportation options including an airport, train station, bus depot and port, (just in case you would like to arrive by boat, ferry or ship) and taxis are available 24/7.
The typical schedule is:
Your own time; this time can be used to work in the studio, explore Portland, dinner, networking etc.
At the beginning of the program there will be an orientation schedule and the end of the program will include a closing dinner and departure schedule. These schedules will be updated every year.

Registration is on a first come first served basis. Once you have registered for the program you will learn more about signing up for workshops, individual studio spaces and other aspects of the program.

Maine College of Art's Feed Your Soul Fellowship is an opportunity for Art Educators to get professional development while immersing themselves in their personal studio practice. Develop relationships and engage in collaborative inquiry with other teachers & colleagues. The week long fellowship provides opportunities for professional development workshops, guest lectures, 24/7 access to personal studio space, housing, several meals and networking. This is a first come first served program. Spaces will fill up quickly.
30 hours of professional development or 3 CEUs are offered in this program through studio workshops and individual studio time.
The Fellowship Program offers a selection of hands-on studio workshops, with 24/7 studio access. Most workshops will be led by MECA’s BFA faculty and may include Ceramics, Jewelry, Painting, Figure Drawing, Woodworking, Photography, Printmaking, Textile and Fashion Design, and more. Workshop registration forms will be available to registered participants at a later date. Each participant can sign up for two 4-day workshops, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. Sign-up for workshops is on a first-come first-served basis relative to the receipt of the registration form. You will be notified by email when the registration materials are available. Some workshops may require a materials fee.

This is a great opportunity for participants who would like the option of having their own studio space during the duration of the program. Feed Your Soul 2015 Program Dates
Arrival Time: Saturday June 27 from 1pm to 3pm
Orientation and Welcome Dinner: Saturday June 27 from 4pm to 7pm
Workshops: Sunday June 28 to Wednesday July 1
Morning workshops: 8:30am to 12:15pm
Afternoon workshops: 1:15pm to 5pm
Closing Dinner: Wednesday July 1 from 5:30pm to 7
Critique Day: Thursday July 2, 9:30am to 12noon
Departure: by 5pm on Thursday July 2, 2015
ADDITIONAL WEEKEND WORKSHOP OPTIONS
Additional Workshop Options will be available on Saturday June 28 2015. These workshops are run by MECA’s Continuing Studies Program. There is an additional cost to take these classes. The classes will allow art educators to earn additional professional development hours and have more studio time. If a participant signs up for any additional workshop and attends the Feed Your Soul Program they will be allowed to stay in campus housing for the additional time at no additional cost. Class and workshop offerings will be available in the spring of 2015.
All travel costs are the responsibility of the participant. This includes all travel to and from MECA plus parking. Discounted parking costs can be arranged for participants with advance notice who are driving their own vehicle to MECA. Portland has several transportation options including an airport, train station, bus depot and port, just in case you would like to arrive by boat, ferry or ship. Taxis are available 24/7. It is not required that you have a vehicle here during the program and many participants do not use their vehicle at all during the program.
Cost of the Fellowship Program is only $225, which covers the registration the workshops. At no extra charge on a first-come first-served basis, you will be offered campus housing, a studio space, breakfast, lunch, and participation in networking and social engagements. Additional costs include some materials fees, depending on the workshop. Optional individual costs: Upgrade charge ($150) for a single dormitory room(very limited). Meals at dinner time. All travel and personal expenses including parking are the responsibility of the participant.
Registration to the Feed Your Soul Art Educator Fellowship
Registrations will begin in December of 2014 and are received on a first come first served basis until the program is full. The program is first come first served but typically fills up by mid-late January. Once the program is full, registrations will be received and placed on a waiting list. All confirmed registrations will be invited to sign up for workshops in the spring 0f 2015. If your school district is paying for the registration, but payment will arrive later, MECA can pre-register participants and hold a space for up to 90 days, giving the school district time to process the payment.
