Summer workshops for high school art educators

July 20 to 26, 2008

Invigorate your creative practice by working with MECA faculty in the College’s stunning studio facilities. Among your peers, you will learn new skills and new ways of seeing.

In addition to the structured workshop instruction, you will have time to work in the studio independently. Our facility is open 24/7 and your housing is just steps away.

Maine College of Art is located in downtown Portland in the heart of the Arts District. The city boasts a vibrant creative community on the coast, with galleries, independent shops, superb food and ocean breezes.

Arrival day is July 20. Studio days are July 21 to 25. Depart on July 26.

Typical Daily Schedule

Breakfast 7:30 - 8:30 am                           

Workshop 9:00am - 12:00 pm             

Lunch 12:00 - 1:00 pm             

Faculty-led Studio Time 1:00 - 5:00 pm                           

Dinner and Open Studio Time 6:00 - on                           

Choose from one of two workshops.

Workshop One: In, Out, and All Around

Adriane Herman, MECA Printmaking Faculty

A jam-packed exploration of digital and traditional means of creating, editing, printing and disseminating printed matter in this funshop masquerading as a workshop.

Workshop Two: War of the Worlds

Philip Brou, MECA Painting Faculty

An in-depth exploration of the idea of place through an examination of objects and spaces.  Participants will construct a town and then generate work that responds to this location using the genres of landscape and still-life painting.

$500 includes cost of workshop, housing and 3 credits.

Beginning on April 1, registrations will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis, as space remains available in the program.  Please note the following workshop fee refund dates:

Prior to June 2nd: Full refund ($500)
June 2nd – July 7th: 50% refund ($250)

After July 7th: No Refund ($0)
