FRIDAY: WELCOME

5:00 to 8:00 PM Registration & Introductions

Location: Lobby of the Porteous Building

Enjoy First Friday walk and tours. Maps and restaurant suggestions provided. Students give informal tour of MECA to their parents.

MECA Café is open until 7:00 for meals

Institute for Contemporary Art at MECA is open until 8:00pm

6:00 – 9:00 PM Caramel Apple Making

Location: Shepley Residence Hall Common Room

Come make a caramel apple and enjoy good friends and food!

SATURDAY: PROCESS AND PRODUCT

8:00 - 9:00 AM Coffee, Registration & Continental Breakfast

Location: MECA Cafe

9:00 – 9:05 AM Meet in the Lobby of Porteous.

Ian Anderson, Associate Dean of Academic & Student Affairs will explain the program for the day.

 

9:10 – 9:50 AM Process: “What is Foundations?”

Foundation faculty will discuss examples of current 3D and 2D student work, the role of foundation classes in understanding visual art, and the ‘critique’.

Lead by: Joe Begnaud, Associate Professor of Painting & Matt Hutton Associate Professor of Woodworking and Furniture Design.

10:00 – 10:50 AM Product: Artist Talk

Location: Student Center

Matt Hutton, Associate Professor of Wood & Furniture Design presents his work & studio life.

11:00 – 12:00 PM Process: Hands-On Drawing

Location: Porteous 301 & 302

Workshop lead by: Professor  of Sculpture John Ventimiglia, and Associate Professor of Painting, Joe Begnaud

11:00 – 12:00  Process: The Digital Figure

Location: Porteous 207

Workshop lead by: Associate Professor of Printmaking Adriane Herman.

Note: Nude Model. This is a drawing workshop in the computer lab. If you are uncomfortable with a nude model then this is not the workshop for you.

11:00 AM  Tours of New Facilities

11:00 AM Library & the Institute for Contemporary Art (ICA) open

Location: Food is available at the MECA Café.

Families will be eating in the Student Center.

The Director of Financial Aid, the Director of Student Affairs, and the Registrar will also be available to meet informally over lunch.
