Salt Graduate Certificate in Documentary Studies

Salt is a one-semester graduate program in documentary studies. Salt students choose between the Radio & Podcasting track, the Writing track, or the Short Film track.

Timeline

The Salt Graduate Certificate runs twice a year. Salt Summer starts mid-May and ends mid-August. Salt Fall starts late-August and ends mid-December.

Salt Summer applicants can apply starting September 2024. We will accept applications as late as April 2025. Classes begin May 2025.

Salt Fall applicants can apply starting September 2024. We will accept applications as late as July 2025. Classes begin August 2025.

Salt Institute

Salt was named by their original students in 1973.

Salt is a natural symbol for the magazine:

  • Salt of the sea,
  • salt-washed soil,
  • salt marshes,
  • salty people — the kind that won’t use two words when you can get by with one.

Salt Workshops

If you are not ready for the one-semester program, Salt offers workshops through Maine College of Art & Design’s Continuing & Professional Studies department.

You will receive a $500 scholarship to attend the Graduate Certificate if you enroll within a year of completing a Salt workshop.

Apply to the Salt Graduate Certificate

A complete application for the Salt Graduate Certificate consists of:

  • A complete application
  • A digital portfolio
  • A personal essay
  • A current résumé or curriculum vitae
  • College transcripts

International applicants need to submit additional materials to be offered admission and successfully obtain a Student Visa to study in the United States.
