Adjunct Faculty in Animation & Game Art

Maine College of Art & Design (MECA&D) seeks qualified candidates to add to our adjunct teaching pool in the Animation & Game Art BFA program

Position Summary and Responsibilities

We are searching for qualified candidates to add to our adjunct faculty pool at the rank of Instructor or Assistant Professor of Animation & Game Art. Candidates should expect to teach classes related directly to their area of expertise; additionally, all faculty are expected to assist students working on self-directed projects (e.g., thesis film).

All faculty in the BFA program must be committed to contributing to the skill sets of visual literacy required for student success. Individualized attention and effective teaching are hallmarks of a MECA&D education, including imparting a strong foundation of formal, aesthetic, and conceptual skills across media applied in the professional practice.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will have extensive experience in the animation or games fields with a record of creative achievement and professional accomplishment. College-level teaching experience in the discipline is a plus.

CV & Portfolio or Reel should display mastery in at least one of the following areas of focus
  • Character Design
  • Storyboarding for Animation
  • 2D Character Animation
  • 3D Animation
  • Programming
  • Animation History
  • Producer/Recruiter
Software proficiency in the following programs is desirable
  • Toon Boom Harmony
  • Toon Boom Storyboard Pro
  • Blender
  • Adobe Creative Suite
  • Unity, Unreal, or Godot game engines
Qualifications & Requirements include
  • The ability to independently develop and teach an elective class within the candidate’s expertise while understanding the role of the course in the departmental sequence (classes meet for 6 hrs/week for 15 weeks).
  • The ability to guide the growth and development of individual students regardless of their skill level.
  • The ability to effectively motivate students to take risks and embrace a process of improvisation and experimentation within formal and conceptual design decisions.
Compensation and Benefits

Compensation: $4,000 per 3-credit class

Benefits: Not Benefits Eligible
