Maine College of Art & Design (MECA&D) is an independent college of art and design located in the heart of Portland, Maine’s vibrant Arts District. Established in 1882, the College serves approximately 450 undergraduate and graduate students and more than 1,000 continuing studies learners annually.

MECA&D is known for its intimate learning environment, interdisciplinary approach, and wide range of academic offerings. The College awards degrees, including the Bachelor of Fine Arts in eight majors, a Master of Fine Arts in Studio Art, a Master of Arts in Teaching, an online Master of Arts in Education, and the Salt Graduate Certificate in Documentary Studies. MECA&D is accredited by the New England Commission of Higher Education (NECHE).

Position Overview

The Admissions Communications & Events Manager plays a key role in advancing MECA&D’s enrollment goals by developing and implementing thoughtful and persuasive communications strategies and managing engaging admissions events. This position serves both the undergraduate and graduate populations and requires flexibility for occasional weekend and evening events.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and manage strategic enrollment communications to engage prospective undergraduate, graduate, Pre-College, certificate, and online students at each stage of the recruitment funnel.
  • Create, edit, and oversee content development across various platforms to ensure consistent, accurate, and engaging messaging.
  • Analyze campaign performance to identify opportunities to improve engagement and optimize communication workflows.
  • Collaborate with colleagues in Admissions, Marketing, and Academic Affairs to ensure alignment of messaging and branding.
  • Plan and execute on-campus events such as open houses and accepted student days, and coordinate logistics with internal partners (e.g., Facilities, Faculty, Student Life).
  • Maintain and manage event communications within the CRM, including communication flows, event setup, and post-event reports.
  • Work closely with the CRM Manager to execute shared priorities and serve on the CRM leadership team.
  • Support content management on Admissions-related webpages.
  • Represent MECA&D at occasional off-campus recruitment events such as college fairs and portfolio days.

What We’re Looking For

  • A bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience.
  • 3+ years of full-time professional experience in higher education admissions, communications, or event management preferred.
  • Proficiency with Admissions CRM systems required; Slate experience strongly preferred.
  • Strong writing, editing, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines with a high level of organization and attention to detail.
  • A creative and strategic mindset with a commitment to inclusive outreach and representation.
  • Experience working independently and collaboratively within a fast-paced environment.
