Pickwick Independent Press Fellowship

About

Pickwick Independent Press is a fine art printing facility founded by alum Lisa Pixley '07 and now owned and operated by Pilar Nadal MFA '13. Pickwick is an active and energetic community printshop with equipment to accomplish printmaking projects based in intaglio, relief, letterpress, risography, screen printing and other traditional and contemporary processes. In addition to the presses and equipment, large sinks, acid tanks, large work areas, personal storage, an assortment of hand tools are also accessible to members.

The Fellowship at Pickwick Independent Press is available to BFA alumni who have graduated within the past three years. The Maine College of Art & Design fellow receives a one-year contributing membership to Pickwick Independent Press starting in summer of 2024 (flexible start date) and ending one year later.

Contribution

The fellow will have access to the Pickwick Independent Press print shop as a contributing member. The fellowship provides the fellow with an opportunity to develop both their fine art and freelance/client based portfolios, broaden their artistic network, and take advantage of the support both the member community and print shop provide. In exchange for the year long membership, the fellow will work on select print projects for the College that will not exceed 40 hours over the course of the year. The fellow is expected to work at least 30 hours monthly in the shop on their own work towards a specific project or goal. They will be expected to submit a culminating portfolio of work, be an active member of the Pickwick community, and execute the Maine College of Art & Design's print project(s) with excellent craft and professionalism.
