PORTLAND, ME — September 4, 2024 — Maine College of Art & Design today announced that it has expanded its leadership team by welcoming four new members to its Board of Trustees. These individuals possess a wealth of knowledge and experience across various fields, including philanthropy, business, technology, and art and design.
The recently appointed trustees will be instrumental in steering MECA&D's strategic direction, advancing the College's goals, and ensuring its commitment to delivering a world-class arts education.
The new additions to the Board of Trustees are Charles P. "Sandy" Butterfield, Jeana Cho, Stacey Dietsch, and Sue Lambe.
"Our new trustees bring vital expertise to our board," said President Laura Freid. "Their experience and perspectives will help us build upon the College's remarkable success and momentum as we implement our Strategic Plan."
Charles P. “Sandy” Butterfield is the Founder and current President of Boulder Wind Consulting. Before his work as a consultant, Sandy co-founded Boulder Wind Power, a startup company that developed an innovative direct drive generator technology. He also spent over 24 years at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), most recently as Chief Engineer at NREL’s National Wind Test Center and leader of the Gearbox Reliability Collaborative. As Chairman of the International Electrotechnical Commission on Renewable Energy, Sandy set global standards for renewable energy equipment. He is also a former Board Member of the American Wind Energy Association. In addition to his accomplishments in renewable energy, Sandy has a passion for crafts — particularly woodworking and furniture design. He resides in Scarborough with his wife Anne.
Jeana Cho is a lawyer and former Vice President of Marketing & Sales at Knours, a beauty brand specializing in skin care products to support women’s skin throughout their life cycles. She is an energetic senior business leader and strategist with over fourteen years of experience leading large-scale business innovations. A hands-on leader and influencer, Jeana is known for creating, implementing, and leading business strategies that enable rapid revenue growth; building brands, and marketing strategies from the ground up; and leading and mentoring high-performing teams to deliver continuous value. Jeana was an Associate Professor of Fashion Business Management at New York University from 2009 to 2012. She supports the Korean American Community Foundation and has served on the Board of the Falmouth Education Foundation. Jeana and her husband Brian reside in Falmouth with their three children.
Stacey Dietsch joined Liberty Mutual Insurance in January 2024 as Executive Vice President, Talent Pipeline. At Liberty Mutual, Stacey leads the end-to-end talent lifecycle programs, from strategic workforce planning, talent attraction and onboarding, to learning and development, performance management, and career growth for 45,000 global employees. Before joining Liberty Mutual, Stacey was a Partner in McKinsey's People & Organizational Performance Practice. During her 19 years at McKinsey, Stacey worked with clients across various industries to translate their business strategy into the Talent, Culture, and Operating Model innovations needed to accelerate and sustain performance through people – creating impact for the business and meaningful work for employees. Stacey resides in Cape Elizabeth with her husband, Niko, and their three children.
Sue Lambe is a licensed landscape architect with a demonstrated history of working in the arts and design industries. Early in her career, she had a thriving landscape architecture practice, which included designing Post Office Park in the Old Port to honor Portland's "sister city" relationship with Shinagawa, Japan. Sue co-designed the plaza at the Margaret Chase Smith Federal Building in Bangor, Maine, with Studioverde, incorporating locally sourced materials to suggest water, movement, and light. Sue directed the Art in Public Places Program for the City of Austin, Texas, supporting 150+ artists with their public art commissions. Sue curated the work of local artists for multiple SXSW Cities Summit: UNESCO Showcase of Media Arts Exhibitions. Sue has participated in Continuing Studies classes at Maine College of Art & Design, studying illustration, painting, and metalsmithing. Sue and her husband, Tom, reside in Yarmouth.
