MECA&D partners with Equal Measure Arts to expand access to professional recording studios

Maine College of Art & Design has teamed up with Equal Measure Arts to expand access to MECA&D's state-of-the-art music production studio in downtown Portland, offering professional recording opportunities to students and under-resourced musicians.

MECA&D's music studio was created thanks to a generous gift from the Crewe Foundation, which enabled the school to offer a music minor. The studio features an Avid S6 Mixing Console, one of the first in New England

Steve Drown, Coordinator of the Bob Crewe Program of Art & Music and Assistant Professor of Music, and Hunter Coleman '22 are enthusiastic about the partnership and looking forward to using the studio to empower young and under-resourced musicians across the region.

"It's something I've wanted to be part of for years—making recording accessible to more people," Drown said.

Beginning in late May, Equal Measure Arts will host weekly open studio workshops at the college’s music studio, facilitated by Coleman. These hands-on educational sessions are intended for aspiring audio engineers and music producers, with sign-ups available on the Equal Measure Arts website. All program fees operate on a sliding scale.
