Commissioned by Portland Properties LLC, Hope Drenning ‘23 recently completed a mural in downtown Portland titled “Life in the Big City." The piece features classic iconography and architecture of Portland’s landscapes and a narrative that follows a man on his walk through the Old Port. A unique feature of “Life in the Big City” is that it is painted with enamel on steel to create a very durable work that will last for decades to come. Drenning’s work seeks to cultivate a sense of curiosity and wonder through narrative. She hopes to bring more aesthetic value back to our public gathering spaces and light for future generations through paint.
