riel Sturchio '12 and their twin, Bianca Sturchio, have been awarded the Robert Giard Grant by Queer|Art. The grant supports emerging LGBTQ+ photographers whose projects address issues of sexuality, gender, or identity.
The Sturchio's were awarded $10,000 to support creating work for their project "before the last lilac blooms", a 15-year-long project focusing on the intimate world-building between queer non-normative twins. The grant will enable the two to produce their first solo exhibition in the Midwest, exhibited during Pride Month.
riel Stuchio '12 (they/she) uses their experience as a queer, chronically ill artist to provoke, and criticize socially idealized normative fantasies of beauty, ability, and gender identity.
