Christopher Stiegler

Chris Stiegler is a writer, artist, and professor living in Portland, Maine. His projects have largely been focused around art history, institutional criticism, queer and art subcultures, and theater, while working in photography, fiction, and collage. Lately, the focus has been on queerness, friendship and love, which is taking shape as framed mixed-media collages and public script readings.

Stiegler holds two BAs from University of Delaware in Art History and Printmaking, an MA in Art History from Christie’s Education, and an MFA in Image Text from Cornell University. Previous to his independent work, Stiegler was a participant in Town Hall Meeting, a performance collective based in New York City between 2008 and 2010, as well as the Institute for American Art, an artist-run space managed out of Stiegler’s home from 2012 - 2018. Additionally, he has curated exhibitions in New York City and Portland, Maine.
