Dr. Lori Stein

Lori Stein is an art historian whose research in modern and contemporary art focuses on the Women’s Art Movement. She began teaching in 2002 at the State University of New York at New Paltz and has since held positions at various institutions, including the New Hampshire Institute of Art, the University of New England, and Southern New Hampshire University Global Campus, where she also served as Associate Dean of Programs for Liberal Arts. She earned an M.A. in art history from the University of Arizona, completing her thesis on the postmodern gender subversion techniques of artist Cindy Sherman and musical performer Madonna, before attending Temple University for her doctoral studies. Currently ABD, Stein’s dissertation examines the photography of the late California-based artist Jay DeFeo. A native New Yorker, she now resides in Somersworth, New Hampshire, with her husband and their fur babies. Together, they are restoring their historic 1830s Neoclassical Italianate-style home.
