Mary Hart earned an MFA at the Milton Avery Graduate School of the Arts at Bard College, where she was the recipient of the Elaine de Kooning scholarship in painting. Hart has held residencies at Yaddo, the Vermont Studio Center, Zea Mays Printmaking, and the Bowdoin Scientific Station on Kent Island, NB, and has received grants from the Maine Arts Commission, Bowdoin College, and the Artist's Resource Trust. Hart’s work is held in the collections of the Portland Museum of Art, Simmons College, and the Zillman Art Museum, and has also been exhibited at numerous venues throughout Maine and New England. Mary Hart has taught art in Maine for 30 years, from kindergarten through college, most recently as Visiting Professor of Painting, Drawing, and Printmaking at Bowdoin College. Hart is an active member and former president of Peregrine Press whose home and studio are in Portland, Maine.
