Disability-Based Housing Accommodation Request

Housing Exemption

The Incoming Student Live On Requirement

In an effort to provide our undergraduate students with the best experience possible and help them be academically and personally successful, Maine College of Art & Design has a live-on requirement for all full-time, incoming BFA students. We established this requirement because of the many benefits living in the residence halls provides students, especially during their first year.

Students first enrolling in the fall are required to live in the residence halls during the fall and spring semesters. Students first enrolling in the spring are required to live in the residence halls during the spring semester.

Exemption Policy

Exemptions to the live-on requirement may be granted based on one of the following reasons; note that not all requests for exemptions are approved. Most exemption requests require documentation from one or more sources.

  • Student will be living at home with parent(s) or legal guardian(s) within 15 miles of campus.
  • Student is married or has dependent(s).
  • Student has a medical need that cannot be accommodated in on-campus housing.
  • Student turns 21 years old before the first day of classes of their first enrolled semester.
  • Student is a transfer student with 30 credits or more.
How to Request an Exemption

All incoming students requesting an exemption from the live-on requirement must submit the form below; the requests go to the Director of Student Life and must cite the specific reason or reasons for the exemption.

The Associate Dean Student Life may request documentation such as a letter and proof of residency from a parent/guardian stating that they will be housing the student with them within 15 miles of campus or medical documentation from a healthcare provider. Please know that the request is not personal but rather in the spirit of getting the most information to make the decision that is best for the student.

Once all documentation is provided, the Associate Dean of Student Life will notify the student in email within 7–10 business days of receiving the request and/or necessary documentation.

Bike Registration

Bike registration is a two step process:

  1. Come to Student Life (we recommend scheduling a time with a professional staff member or your RA) to pick up your bike registration sticker.
  2. Fill out the form below to let us know you have a bike on campus; you will receive a receipt of your responses automatically. If you do not, you have not filled in the registration form correctly and you should do it again.

Note: if you put the sticker on the bike and do NOT fill out this form, we cannot know it is yours; this means as an unregistered bike, we cannot contact you in case it needs to be moved or removed. You are responsible for registering your bike with both steps.

Registering your bike helps to recover it should your bike become lost or stolen. Be sure to always lock your bike and never leave it in places that block hallways or exits.
