Residence Halls

Welcome

On behalf of the Student Life Office, welcome to Maine College of Art & Design and to living on campus. We hope you will find our residence halls to be a comfortable living environment and a place of learning and camaraderie during your time here.

The residence halls are designed to help you embrace the many social, intellectual, and personal opportunities available to you as a student artist. We offer four residence halls. Oak Street and Shepley Street are first-year undergraduate residence halls. Erlang Apartments and Monument Square Apartments are upper class and graduate residence halls. Each resident hall has Resident Advisors (RAs) that can assist and support students.

Incoming Student Live On Requirement

In an effort to provide our undergraduate students with the best experience possible and help them be academically and personally successful, Maine College of Art & Design has a live-on requirement for all full-time, first-time students. We established this requirement because of the many benefits living in the residence halls provides students, especially during their first year at college.

Students first enrolling in the fall are required to live in the residence halls during the fall and spring semesters. Students first enrolling in the spring are required to live in the residence halls during the spring semester. Students may request an exemption from this requirement for a variety of reasons by clicking here.

Housing Policies

Returning Students

Returning students participate in the Housing Selection Process in the spring semester for placement in the following fall semester. Most students get to pick their room with their choice of roommates. For those that do not get to choose right away, we add them to a waitlist and get them into housing as rooms open up. We may not be able to place students into an assignment till the summer, but historically we have been able to provide housing to those on the waitlist if they choose that option.

Gender Neutral Housing

Residence halls are all gender neutral housing and students have the options of indicating what genders they feel comfortable living with. Students will complete their preferences on the housing application.
